Executive Contracting
PMR Consulting has performed a number of executive Contracting roles; from Chairman, CEO, CIO, Program and project leadership
We bring a set of skills based on previous fixed roles including Chairman, General Management, Regional Director APAC, Operations, Sales, and Engineering for leading brands such as Orion Health, Fronde Systems, LogicaCMG, to name but a few.
As Chair, we were initially contracted in to act as chairman for an NFP then was appointed as permanent chair. Across a number of Chair roles we have: restructured the business, gone into management mode to assist during Pandemic impacts, implemented many governance best practices, and rebuilt board teams.
We coach CEO's through change, or have stood in as acting CEOs whilst Board do a measured recruitment programme. We call on our background in; People Management, Sales Management, Measurement and reporting, financial management and reporting as needed, to provide both steady state and transformation changes, both in an advisory role and in an acting role.
we have acted as a vCIO (CTO) for a number of organisations. In each case, we have elevated the role of IT and digital to the executive table and Board, restructured teams where necessary, managed vendors and SLA contracts, issued tenders for services, engaging with the businesses to move towards an integrated digital world. In essence, we move IT from gatekeepers to guardians and coach and support business innovation and compliance activities.
Our project governance spans from the deployment of software systems for thousands of seats across multiple DHB campuses, leading a team of five project managers, and regional rollout of radiology hardware. through to ERP projects and digital innovation and eCommerce projects.
Irrespective of where we engage within an organisation, our focus is on leading growth and change, preparing organisations for a steady state role when the time is right. We have been called in on several different roles for the same client over time, allowing us to continue to drive transformation building upon previous iterations.

DIGITAL GOVERNANCE
With over 15 years of advising Boards on data and technology and the last 12 years of direct experience on Boards, PMR Consulting can provide meaningful advice and direction to Boards, especially in the areas of cyber risk, compliance and digital uptake.
We can inform and lead Board discussions and planning around:
- Cyber security, Technology Invest/Divest Strategies, Productivity and Measurement, responsive strategies through the enablement of IT and data, basically the completed Digital Transformation journey.
- We are proven at bridging Governance and Management paradigms, facilitating strongly linked strategies and operation plans with a focus on technologies and reporting.
- We typically do so as independent advisors to the Board and Management teams, or as a vCIO executive role
Cyber Governance can be summarised in three key disciplines: Innovation and transformation, Infrastructure and architecture, and Risk and Compliance.
We have a track record of identifying areas for adapting technology, and the use of data to drive business growth. We can draft and present the business case for change, from indicative to fully modelled, in each case we insist on a focus on business benefits realisation, and project risk mitigation. We find these are the two areas often overlooked when establishing new technology projects. Digital projects also suffer from scope creep, through either too many assumptions at the start or ongoing addition of "must have" new features. We provide strong oversight on scope creep, whilst embracing iterative experimentation within a digital project.
Most established companies have an existing technology stack or infrastructure. This includes cloud-based applications, virtualisation of infrastructure, outsourcing or services. We can review the existing approaches and advise on invest/maintain/divest strategies, and cloud deployment strategies as required. Our focus is on user experience and cyber resilience at the right price point.
All organisations have a requirement for strong Cyber resilience and good data and privacy principles. These include NZ Privacy Act, GDPR, PCI for credit card transactions, and ISO27000/SOC-2 type compliance to meet sector or customer requirements. The cost of compliance and the risk of a breach are both significant. We advise on best practices for the nature of the business and assist with achieving required compliance.

VIRTUAL CIO
For many Mid and Small sized NZ businesses, affordable access to the leadership and guidance that a CIO can bring to the organisation is beyond their economic reach.
Whilst the benefits of digital and compliance leadership are well accepted, affordable access to pragmatic and scaled advice is still out of their financial scope.
The PMR Consulting Virtual CIO model allows businesses to access the thought leadership a digital champion can bring to the executive and governance table as well as gaining access to standard playbooks for compliance, investment, projects, change management and strategic decisions.
This allows for an organisation to become Information lead, and have 'Digital' as a core part of the planning and execution discussions, whilst fast-tracking and maintaining compliance and cost-effective management of the IT portfolio.
From our experience, we find that a common pattern for a vCIO engagement is to engage for a three to six-month intensive role, followed by a tailing off into a more advisory role.
Initial activities include moving through the PMR Consulting IT Governance and Management playbook, comparing the organisation's current and future states against a 28-point framework and creating a transition plan. We then manage change across six domain areas; Governance & Strategy, Security & Risk, Infrastructure Management, IT operations, Application Management and Data & BI.
We get heavily involved in the organisation's strategy to ensure that the Digital components are well understood, as well as in the projects to deliver change.
We often perform a Systems Architectural review, looking at the current technology, applications and vendors in play and propose an Enterprise Architecture (EA) roadmap. This can often result in running business cases and RFPS for the acquisition of new technologies and phasing out and divesting old or irrelevant technologies. This program of work is often the gateway to becoming an ongoing vCIO advisory to the management and Board.

IS PROJECT GOVERNANCE AND REMEDIATION
With the complexities, pace and a plethora of vendors and solutions, software and technology projects can quickly go off track and become a high risk to an organisation.
Project failure can often be attributed to four thematic drivers; the initial business case and project plan were flawed, the technology and importantly the software build was not up to the project scope and requirements, the partnership and contractual outcomes are under stress, or the project suffered from incremental scope creep or issues that compounded to a point of no return.
PMR Consulting has been called in to remediate and successfully complete multiple large projects, spanning in scope from million dollar budgets and thousands of users across multiple campuses, to large ERP and CRM implementations, through to bespoke application and Website development
We are known for rebuilding trust, recovery of scope and tasks, and ongoing project oversight to ensure successful delivery. Our engagement can occur at project inception to provide an oversight and probity framework, through to project rescue and remediation.
